so, all travel woes aside, we are settled in and having a fabulous time. nellie got her first swimming experience today, but it was anticlimactic in that she acted like she'd been doing it forever and showed no trepidation whatsoever. theo discovered the hot tub with its bubbles is not a bad place to be (clever fellow) and is having fun with a giant blow-up shark he christened, "fish," and then told me that "this is my 1st pet." little does he know that's the closest thing to a pet he might ever actually get! we went to Mass with nellie this morning at another st. francis of assisi parish so we felt at home and then read, swam, and explored the neighborhood. we are all just happy to be here with grammy--although nellie can live without her very sweet shitzu, dolly. we ate guac by the pool and capped the evening off with a great stroll--i love iowa but have to admit this mild weather thing and the mountains are so seductive...
