with both mike and i taking classes this summer and numerous other projects going on, we knew the holiday weekend was the chance to try to get some good family time in--for one, mike accompanied the other three of us on our usual saturday farmer's market date and was a trooper in the rain. on sunday we ended up at the 4:30 "sinner's Mass" --and afterwards it was such a lovely night out that we decided to forget "bedtime" (besides, theo's still struggling with that anyway without the ba bas!). we packed a quick picnic dinner and headed back to gateway park downtown--third time, actually, that we'd played in "the river" there this week, but the first where mom actually came prepared with a towel! theo's taken to wearing "big boy" underwear around the house this week (although has not once gone on the potty)--so don't be deceived by his swimming attire. apparently, he is very good at the art of "holding it." he is also very conscientious about the environment, picking up trash after the big 80/35 music fest this weekend and escorting it to the trash can. nellie, for her part, is a peach! mike took this shot of her, and I think of it is a sweet illustration of how much we love des moines!
