once again, can i say how much i love des moines? this weekend theo and i again journeyed out by ourselves after dark--a treat for him in itself. we have a fairly new outdoor skating plaza here, and they had a free event with music and the mayoral lighting of the christmas tree there followed by fireworks. it was a gorgeous night, and theo LOVED watching the skaters and handled his first fireworks show quite well. after that we walked over to the downtown festival of trees--theo was a little young to get into christmas trees last year so was super engaged at looking at all the different creations--especially the rubber duckie tree. they also had a children's area, and after 5 attempts on his part to gather the courage to do it (and insisting only riding in the engine would do), he took a ride on the train. on the way home, we drove around looking at all the lights downtown, and i am thrilled to find that this year there is someone else in our family whose excitement looking at light displays can match my own! when we got home, he walked around in circles and stuttered like a madmen trying so hard to tell daddy all at once about everything he had seen and done on our date. we had a BALL and spent a grand total of $1! yep, des moines is definitely the place for us!
